Afterimage Community Guidelines

Afterimage is a place to share things you create, things you find interesting, and the parts of the internet you want to talk about.

We want people to have a lot of freedom here. That also means everyone has a responsibility not to make Afterimage miserable or unsafe for everyone else.

The short version is simple:

Be a person. Don’t be awful. Don’t post illegal or exploitative content. Label adult content. Respect other people.

Here are the details.

You must be 18 or older

Afterimage is for adults.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use Afterimage.

Post what you want, within reason

Afterimage is meant to support a wide range of expression. Art, photography, writing, memes, fandom, personal posts, politics, weird internet stuff, and adult content can all have a place here.

We are not interested in removing something just because it is unpopular, strange, controversial, or offensive to someone.

There are limits, though.

Adult content is allowed

Consensual adult content is allowed on Afterimage.

If you post sexually explicit or otherwise mature content, use the content-labeling tools we provide. People who do not want to see adult content should be able to avoid it.

Do not try to get around filters or deliberately mislabel explicit content.

Some adult content is never allowed, including:

  • sexual content involving anyone under 18;

  • sexualized depictions of minors, including drawings, animation, or AI-generated material;

  • nonconsensual intimate images;

  • sexual deepfakes or other fake intimate images of real people without their consent;

  • hidden-camera sexual content;

  • sexual exploitation, trafficking, or coercion; and

  • content shared as revenge, blackmail, or harassment.

If there is any question about whether someone depicted in sexual content is an adult, do not post it.

Absolutely no sexual exploitation of minors

There is no gray area here.

Do not post, request, share, link to, trade, or promote child sexual abuse material or any sexual content involving minors.

Do not use Afterimage to groom, solicit, exploit, or sexualize minors.

This applies to real, fictional, illustrated, altered, and AI-generated content.

Accounts involved in this kind of activity may be permanently banned immediately. We may also preserve information and report content to the appropriate authorities when required or appropriate.

Don't harass people

Disagreement is fine. Arguments are fine. Criticism is fine.

Targeted abuse is not.

Do not use Afterimage to repeatedly harass, stalk, threaten, intimidate, or encourage others to pile onto someone.

That includes creating new accounts to continue contacting someone who has blocked you or to get around a moderation action.

Being rude and being abusive are not always the same thing. We will consider context when reviewing reports.

No credible threats or calls for violence

Do not threaten to hurt someone or encourage others to commit real-world violence.

Discussion of violence in news, history, fiction, politics, art, or other legitimate contexts is generally fine.

Celebrating, encouraging, or organizing real violence against an identifiable person or group is not.

Don't promote hatred against people for who they are

Afterimage is not a place for communities built around dehumanizing or attacking people based on characteristics such as race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.

Context matters. Discussing hateful ideas, documenting them, criticizing them, or using offensive language in an artistic or historical context is different from using Afterimage to promote hatred or abuse people.

Respect people's privacy

Do not post someone's highly sensitive personal information to threaten, intimidate, harass, or endanger them.

This includes things like:

  • home addresses;

  • private phone numbers;

  • personal financial information;

  • passwords or login credentials;

  • private medical information; or

  • other information that could reasonably put someone at risk.

Public information is not automatically prohibited, but using public information as part of a harassment campaign can still violate these Guidelines.

No nonconsensual intimate images

Do not post or share intimate images of someone without their permission.

This includes genuine photos or videos as well as manipulated, digitally altered, or AI-generated intimate images that depict a real person.

If someone asks us to remove intimate imagery of themselves that was posted without their consent, we will review the report promptly and take action where appropriate.

Don't impersonate people deceptively

Parody, satire, fan accounts, and role-playing are generally fine when it is reasonably clear what they are.

Do not pretend to be another person or organization in order to deceive, scam, harass, or defraud people.

If your account could reasonably be mistaken for an official account, make its unofficial nature clear.

Don't scam people

Do not use Afterimage for fraud, phishing, fake giveaways, credential theft, investment scams, impersonation scams, or other deceptive schemes.

If the purpose of your post is to trick someone into giving you money, passwords, personal information, or access to an account, it does not belong here.

Don't spam

Nobody wants a feed full of garbage.

Do not:

  • repeatedly post the same content across large numbers of accounts;

  • send unsolicited promotional messages at scale;

  • create large numbers of fake accounts;

  • manipulate likes, reblogs, follows, or other engagement;

  • post misleading links simply to drive traffic;

  • use bots in ways that disrupt the Service; or

  • flood tags or communities with irrelevant content.

Reasonable automation may be allowed. Abusive automation is not.

Don't upload malware or attack the Service

Do not use Afterimage to distribute malware, steal credentials, attack other systems, or interfere with Afterimage itself.

Do not try to access accounts, private content, administrative tools, databases, or infrastructure that you are not authorized to access.

If you find a security vulnerability, report it to us instead of exploiting it.

Respect copyright and creators

Post things you have the right to post.

That does not mean every copyright dispute belongs in Community Guidelines enforcement. Copyright law can be complicated, and some uses may be lawful even without the copyright owner's permission.

If a copyright owner believes their work is being used unlawfully, they can use our copyright reporting process.

Repeated copyright infringement may result in account restrictions or removal.

Graphic and disturbing content

Graphic content may be allowed when it has artistic, documentary, newsworthy, educational, or other legitimate value.

Please label graphic material when appropriate so people can choose whether they want to see it.

Content whose primary purpose is to glorify extreme real-world suffering, celebrate acts of severe violence, or target victims for abuse may be removed.

Self-harm content

People should be able to talk honestly about mental health, self-harm, addiction, eating disorders, and difficult experiences.

What we do not allow is content that actively encourages someone to seriously hurt themselves, provides content intended to push someone toward suicide, or targets vulnerable people with that intent.

Discussion, recovery stories, support, and personal experiences are allowed.

Illegal activity

Do not use Afterimage to directly facilitate serious illegal activity.

Talking about illegal activity is not automatically prohibited. Neither are journalism, education, advocacy, fiction, harm-reduction discussions, or documentation of real events.

The difference is whether the content is discussing something or actively helping someone commit it.

Tags and discovery

Use tags in a way that generally reflects what you are posting.

Do not deliberately fill unrelated tags with spam, pornography, harassment, or other content just to force it in front of people who did not ask to see it.

We may remove content from search, tags, Explore, Gallery, or other discovery areas without removing the post itself.

Not everything that is allowed on Afterimage is necessarily entitled to promotion.

Don't evade moderation

If we remove a post, restrict an account, or suspend you, do not create additional accounts simply to get around that action.

Trying to evade a restriction can result in additional accounts being restricted too.

Reporting something

If you see something that appears to violate these Guidelines, use the Report option.

Please report things in good faith. Do not use reports as a weapon against someone you disagree with.

A report does not automatically mean a post will be removed. We will review the content and its context before deciding what to do.

Some especially serious issues, such as nonconsensual intimate imagery or copyright infringement, may have separate reporting processes.

Blocking is your friend

Not every unpleasant interaction needs a moderator.

If someone annoys you, argues with you, posts things you dislike, or simply makes your experience worse, blocking them may be the best option.

Moderation is for rule violations. Blocking is for deciding who you personally want to interact with.

What happens when something breaks the rules?

It depends.

We may:

  • remove a post;

  • add or change a content warning;

  • remove something from discovery;

  • restrict an account feature;

  • issue a warning;

  • temporarily suspend an account; or

  • permanently ban an account.

We look at things like severity, context, intent, previous violations, and whether someone appears to be deliberately abusing the Service.

Some violations are serious enough to justify an immediate permanent ban.

Moderation isn't perfect

Context matters, and moderation decisions are not always obvious.

We may occasionally get something wrong.

Where we provide an appeal process, you are welcome to use it. Appeals should explain why you believe the decision was incorrect rather than simply resubmitting the same complaint.

We may also reverse a moderation decision if new information changes our understanding of what happened.

These guidelines will change

Afterimage will evolve, and these rules will too.

We may update these Guidelines as new features are added, new problems appear, or we learn that a rule is not working the way we intended.

When we make significant changes, we will update the date on this page and may notify users through Afterimage.

One last thing

These Guidelines are not meant to describe every possible bad thing someone could do.

Trying to find a technical loophole in the wording is not a defense for obviously abusive behavior.

Use reasonable judgment, respect other people, and help us keep Afterimage somewhere people actually want to be.
